Mason Champion

Mason Champion is passionate about life coaching, whether on the golf course or in his financial practice. A golf professional and a member of the Professional Golfers' Association of America, he serves as a volunteer head coach for he golf program at The Boys' Latin School of Maryland in Baltimore.
Over the past seven years, Mr. Champion has developed the program into more than just a golf team. "We use golf as a competitive vehicle and as an experience to bring the boys together and teach life lessons," Mr. Champion said. The boys in the school, who range in age from 12 to 18, learn such lessons as:
- Discipline through rigorous daily practices during season and skills development sessions several days a week in pre-season.
- Personal leadership through a mentoring program in which varsity team members are paired with middle schoolers.
- Planning for the future through a weekend retreat to a college campus, where the boys get a glimpse of their next stage in life.
"I've seen the boys grow individually. It reaches their hearts," said Mr. Champion. He sees the changes over time in how the team members treat one another, how they define themselves (by their good acts), and what they focus on (not "What's in it for me?" but "What can I do?").
Mr. Champion, and advisor in Lutherville, Md., with Morgan Stanley Smith Barney has been deeply inspired by this faith to make an impact in the lives of others. "It's the reason I got into this industry; it gives you the resources necessary to make a difference."
