The late John Winthrop Wright left twin legacies in Milford, Conn.: Wright Investors' Services and the School for Ethical Education (SEE).

Both organizations share the same office, which explains why and how Wright employees put in so much volunteer time to support the activities of this unusual nonprofit organization.

The mission of SEE is to teach strategies to put ethics into action. It was born of Mr. Wright's observation over the years that many potential employees, especially young people, do not understand basic ethical values.

Since its founding in 1995, SEE has reached more than 100,000 students and teachers throughout Connecticut.

Its major program components, which cover the entire community spectrum, include youth community service projects for grades 2-12, an essay contest for grades 5-12, college ethics classes, ethics awards for community leaders, and an anti-cheating program for high schools.

The winning essays are particularly poignant, highlighting children's stories about how they discovered their own personal "laws of life." Many talk about love, determination, respect, and self-acceptance.

All of Wright's 40 employees contribute in some way to SEE, whether by providing administrative support or IT services, fundraising help, or direct donations.

"It's an important part of our firm in so many ways," said Peter Donovan, chairman of Wright and of SEE's board of trustees. "It's very integrated with what we do and how we operate."
