Boston, MA – July 20, 2010 – The Invest in Others Charitable Foundation, Inc., a public charity that supports the philanthropic and volunteer efforts of financial advisors across the country, today announced its Second Annual 5K Run/Walk event to be held in Boston on Wednesday, July 28, 2010. Through the race, Invest in Others will make a donation on behalf of race participants, culminating in a $30,000 donation to Pine Street Inn, a Boston-based charity committed to ending homelessness in the city. The funds will be used toward the organization’s new Hartford Street Project, a 16-unit supportive housing program for homeless U.S. veterans that Pine Street Inn is preparing to open in the fall of 2010. In addition, Invest in Others will also award the top three male and female financial advisor finishers with a generous donation to the charity of their choice.
Boston-area runners and walkers who participate will have an opportunity to make a positive difference in the community while enjoying a fun workout along scenic Pleasure Bay. The race is open to the public, including runners and walkers of all skill levels. Online registration instructions and additional information are located at https://www.investinothers.org/5k .
“Invest in Others is proud to host our second annual 5K Run/Walk and excited about the opportunity to continue this growing tradition of gathering with friends and colleagues from the financial services industry to celebrate the philanthropic spirit of financial advisors and their impact on communities across the country,” said Kandis Bates, president of the Invest in Others Charitable Foundation. “We are particularly pleased to hold this year’s event in Boston – a city with a strong and diverse financial services community. We encourage members of the financial services industry, as well as Boston-area runners and walkers of all ages and skill levels, to join financial advisors from across the country for this worthwhile event. “We are very grateful for the generous support we’ve received from so many financial services firms as well as from the greater Boston community, whose contributions have made this important event possible,” said Bates.
“Pine Street Inn is honored to be selected as the recipient of funds raised through the Invest in Others 5K Run/Walk,” said Lyndia Downie, president of Pine Street Inn. “These funds will be used for the renovation of a home for homeless veterans, creating much-needed housing for those who have served our country. It is because of the generosity of groups like this that we can continue to provide vital housing and support services to men and women in need.” Sponsors of the Invest in Others 5K Run/Walk include: Healthcare Trust of America, Inc.; LPL Financial; Allianz Life Financial Services; Behringer Harvard; Dimensional Fund Advisors; Eaton Vance; New York Life/Mainstay Investments; Prudential; UnitedHealth Group; AXA Distributors; Cole Real Estate Investments; Columbia Management; Dreyfus; ING Financial Solutions; Invesco; InvestmentNews; Ivy Funds; Lincoln Financial Distributors; NATIXIS Global Associates; Neuberger Berman; Pax World Management, LLC; Protective; Rydex | SGI; Steben & Company, Inc.; Sun Life Financial and Van Eck Global.
