What is the grant for and how will it benefit the community?
Female veterans are often underappreciated. They can experience challenges securing employment due to lack of good childcare options. Many veterans suffer from depression, anxiety, PTSD and other service-related disabilities and do not seek out necessary health care. This is especially a concern for expectant mothers.
This grant will be used for our Female Veteran Appreciation programs, specifically to expand Group Baby Shower programs in partnership with VA Women’s health at the locations: Northport NY, Cincinnati OH, West Haven, CT and Fort Worth, TX.
Physical and psychological injuries can increase the risk of poor maternal outcomes.
VA Women’s Health programs struggle to fund community outreach programs. Baby showers provide our female veterans with necessary infant supplies, gift cards to purchase items and a feel-good experience to let them know they are loved and appreciated by their community.
These events keep them connected to the VA for continued and ongoing health care check-ins and help decrease their stress by letting them know they have community partners in their pre, post-natal and overall health care.
