2020 Community Service Award Winner
Lee Health Foundation
Arch Capital Advisory Group of Raymond James
The Lee Health Foundation raises money to ensure quality health care at Lee Health, a public not-for profit system in Southwest Florida consisting of four acute care hospitals and two specialty hospitals. Millions of dollars have been raised since the Foundation was started in 1996 and those funds have supported lifesaving health care for the community. This includes the Golisano Children’s Hospital, which opened four years ago so children could receive specialized pediatric care locally. One of Lee Health Foundation’s most prominent annual fundraising events is Madisen’s Match, a thriving pro-class tennis tournament featuring some of the best tennis players worldwide. The event has grown over the past 12 years to include a gala, live and silent auctions, tennis clinics with the pros, a kid’s clinic and a full pro-class exhibition hosted in a college arena. Madisen’s Match has raised more than $1.3 million for the hospital system’s foundation.
The driving force behind Madisen’s Match is Duane Chaney. In 2008, Duane’s niece Madisen was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor at the age of three. Duane decided to use the energy and emotion from this experience to create a fundraising event benefitting the Lee Health Foundation and better equip doctors to fight pediatric cancer. Duane logs hundreds of hours each year organizing the many facets of the event and enjoys connecting with the very children who have benefitted directly from the fundraising efforts of events like Madisen’s Match.
