What is the grant for and how will it benefit the community?
NAMI Metropolitan Baltimore improves the lives of individuals living with mental health conditions, their families, and communities through education, support, and advocacy. The $20,000 grant from Invest in Others will be used to support NAMI Ending the Silence. This education and awareness program helps participants to know the signs of a mental health condition and learn how to seek help. Ending the Silence is an engaging 1-hour presentation that includes information about warning signs, facts and statistics, andthe effects of stigma and negative perceptions about mental illness. The presentation is designed in three variations; for middle and high school students, parents and families, and teachers and school staff.
With the funds from the Invest in Others grant, NAMI Metro Baltimore was able to expand our Ending the Silence program into more middle and high schools located in vulnerable communities in Baltimore. We received excellent feedback from this program and the demand has only increased since.
