Thomas Bodine Invests in Habitat for Humanity

Tom Bodine became involved with Habitat for Humanity when his son was in Boy Scouts—he realized that the model of giving those in need a hand up rather than a hand out was a model he could endorse and could pass on to his children. He was soon not only building homes, but also serving on the board of directors for Habitat for Humanity North Central Massachusetts (NCM).

During his tenure on the board, Tom developed and currently manages a Critical Home Repair program, which provides interior and exterior repairs for low-income homeowners by leveraging volunteer labor and using materials purchased through donations. Tom realized that the best way to serve more families in the 25 cities and towns served by Habitat NCM was to augment the home building program with a home repair program so residents could maintain a safe, decent, and affordable place to live. The program helps more than a dozen families per year.

Tom earned Honorable Mention for the 2015 Community Leadership Awards.
